Oinoscent.

One of Athens’ original wine bars. No compromises.

One of Athens’ original serious wine bars, on Voulis 45-47 since 2008 in a high-ceilinged industrial space with one of the neighbourhood’s larger outdoor areas. 700 labels, 50 rotating by-the-glass pours, Greek and international in genuine balance. Scallops, lamb sausages, charcuterie. Staff who guide beginners and keep collectors engaged. Closed Mondays.

Oinoscent opened in late 2008, making it one of the earliest serious wine bars in Athens, and moved to a larger space on Voulis in 2012. The name compresses “oin” (wine in Greek) with “scent,” and the bar’s identity is built around that same dual focus: sensory precision and a wine list comprehensive enough to spend a long time with. The space is industrial in character — high ceilings, concrete walls, a large outdoor area that is one of the more generous in the neighbourhood — and operates at a level of seriousness that places it consistently among the best wine addresses in the city.

The list runs to 700 references, with 50 rotating by-the-glass pours at all times — a number that suggests a wine programme run as a living document rather than a static menu. Greek and international wines are represented in genuine balance: the Greek section is deep and specific, the international section covers the producers worth importing without padding the list with names that exist only for recognition. The food is treated with the same seriousness: charcuterie plates, scallops, lamb sausages, preparations that require the same quality of attention the wine list demands.

700 references, 50 by the glass. The most serious wine address in central Athens.

The staff are the consistent subject of every review. Knowledgeable, genuinely welcoming, able to guide a complete beginner and keep a serious collector engaged simultaneously. Closed Mondays. Tuesday through Sunday from 18:00. Price tier 4 — the most ambitious wine bar in central Athens, priced accordingly.
