Yakitori, Hi-Fi and vinyl near Syntagma
Tucked in a narrow alley near Syntagma, Birdman is an intimate yakitori bar and grill pairing open-fire Japanese cooking — neck-to-tail skewers, rare-breed beef nigiri, kushiyaki — with a curated vinyl record store and Hi-Fi analog sound. No frills. Just food, drinks and music that mean something.
Birdman occupies a narrow space on Voulis, a block from Syntagma Square, behind an unmarked door. The restaurant operates as an intimate yakitori bar — open-fire cooking on vertical Japanese charcoal grills, a format that demands precision and patience with each skewer.
The menu works neck-to-tail through the bird and extends to rare-breed beef and seasonal vegetables treated with the same attention. Skewers arrive at the bar or at the small tables; the pace is the kitchen’s. The wine and sake list is brief and considered.
Binchotan smoke and vinyl in a room that earns both.
Birdman also runs a curated vinyl record store and a hi-fi analogue sound system — the music is part of the proposition, not background noise. The combination of yakitori and serious audio is unusual anywhere; in Athens, it’s unique.
