Monastiraki
The Naxos Apothecary.
The Korres brothers, second act. Naxos in a bottle.
An apothecary on Kolokotroni from the brothers who founded KORRES. A homeopathic pharmacy and Naxos in a bottle — fragrances named for the island's villages, creams from its herbs, design from its bones.
Kolokotroni 3-5, on the corner of Voulis. Next door to Xenodocheio Milos, two minutes from Syntagma. The window looks like a chemist's from a century ago.
The brothers behind it are Yorgos and Andonis Korres. The name on the door says Naxos because that's where they were born — the largest of the Cyclades, the one Zeus grew up on, the one Dionysus blessed with the wine. In 1991 Yorgos opened the first homeopathic pharmacy in Athens, called it KORRES, and went on to build the brand most people now know from airports and Whole Foods. The Naxos Apothecary, opened around 2018, is what came after — the brothers, returned to the island in spirit, working at the slow end of the catalogue.
The KORRES brothers, second act. Fragrances named for villages you haven’t been to yet.
Inside: the labs are visible behind glass, the herbs are jarred along the walls, the apothecary jars are amber and labelled by hand. Five fragrances, each named for a Naxian village — Chora, Chalki, Sangri, Apeiranthos, Filoti. Skincare made to order from herbal extracts. Homeopathic remedies. Personalised supplements. The room reads as a working pharmacy that takes design seriously, not the other way round.
Open Monday to Saturday, ten to eight. Try Chora — the sun-and-pomelo one — on the wrist if you only have time for one bottle. Don't ask which one is best. Tell them what you remember and ask which one to take home.
