Monastiraki
The Bar in front of the Bar.
A pavement bar that refused to leave.
A pavement cocktail bar on Petraki, opened 2021 as a pop-up that refused to leave. Eight zero-waste cocktails, changing daily, slogans on the wall, and a speakeasy called Rumble in the Jungle through the unmarked door behind. World's 50 Best, No. 47.
Petraki 1. A pedestrian alley off Mitropoleos you'd only find by following someone who's been before.
Three friends — Alexandros Tselepis, Konstantinos Theodorakopoulos, Symeon Papanikolaou — were building a cocktail bar inside. While permits cleared, they rigged a counter on the pavement in July 2021 and started serving. The pop-up was meant to last six weeks. Five years later it's still there. The bar inside — Rumble in the Jungle, named for the 1974 Ali-Foreman fight — opened too, behind an unmarked door in the wall.
Eight cocktails. Zero waste. Five years of a six-week pop-up that forgot to close.
No indoor seating. Eight cocktails daily, built from Rumble's kitchen prep — zero waste as manifesto, not talking point. The digital sign above rotates: Your ex was here yesterday. Talk to your therapist about us. We serve humans too. World's 50 Best Bars 2025: No. 47.
Open from seven most nights. The crowd arrives around ten and spills across the alley by midnight. Order what the bartender recommends. If Rumble has space, push the door behind the counter.
