Philip Glass.
The neighbourhood wine bar. And something more.
Neighbourhood wine bar on Louka Bellou 3 in Ampelokipi, opened November 2025 by Filippos Kouroudis in a family-owned space. Around 30 labels with a focus on Greek producers, plus a house wine produced exclusively with Tsimbidis Winery in Monemvasia — a Kydonitsa, Assyrtiko and Monemvasia blend bottled under the Philip Glass label. The room is restrained and intimate. Started as a local, became a destination.
Filippos Kouroudis opened Philip Glass in November 2025 in a family-owned space in Ampelokipi that had been looking for a use. He found one: a wine bar that could become part of the neighbourhood’s daily life rather than a destination that drew people from elsewhere. The original crowd was local. Word spread fast enough that visitors from across Athens started arriving within weeks of opening. The core crowd has remained the one he built it for.
The wine list runs to around 30 labels, with a deliberate focus on Greek producers alongside a small selection from Italy and France. Kouroudis worked with the well-regarded Tsimbidis Winery in Monemvasia to produce a house wine for the bar: a blend of Kydonitsa, Assyrtiko, and Monemvasia grape, bottled under the Philip Glass label. It is available only here.
It started as the neighbourhood’s own. Then Athens came to find it.
The room is cosy and deliberately restrained — the kind of space where you arrive for one glass and stay for the evening without quite knowing why. Reviewers consistently use the word “gem.” The food is outstanding. The name is a tribute to the American minimalist composer, which sets the aesthetic register of the whole project: something serious, something a little unexpected, something that has clearly been thought about.
