Espresso, filter, cold brew and decaf from beans The Underdog roasts itself, served to Kypseli residents, remote workers and afternoon strollers.
The Underdog started in Athens in 2015 with a roastery and a flagship in Thissio. The Kypseli location, on Fokionos Negri — the long pedestrian boulevard that cuts through one of the city’s most atmospheric old neighbourhoods — is one of the brand’s urban formats: compact, consistent, and rooted in the same specialty credentials as the original.
The coffee is roasted in-house by The Underdog Roasters, which gives the Kypseli café a supply chain most competitors can’t match. Espresso, filter, cold brew, decaf — served daily from 8am to 8pm, to a crowd that includes Kypseli residents, remote workers, and anyone who has discovered that Fokionos Negri is one of the better streets in Athens to spend an afternoon.
The broader Underdog project — award-winning baristas, international specialty recognition, a developing franchise model — is largely invisible at café level. What you see on Fokionos Negri is a well-run specialty coffee shop on a good street. That is enough.
Why we picked it
Specialty coffee from one of the city's best roasters, on Kypseli's favourite promenade. It is a good reason to walk Fokionos Negri end to end.
