Lysandros Kaftantzoglou's Arsakeion, restored by Legendary Food in a €40 million project and reopened in 2026. Under the glass dome: a round communal table, chef-led counters such as Giannis Liokas's Apsys, the Boarding Pass bar and STOA Agora, a pantry of more than 300 small Greek producers.
The Arsakeion was begun in 1846 to designs by Lysandros Kaftantzoglou for the Philekpaideftiki Etaireia, and its arcade became one of the city's covered passages, with facades on Stadiou, Panepistimiou, Pesmazoglou and Arsaki. Legendary Food signed for the restoration in 2019; together with its tenants it put about €40 million into the building.
The centre of it all is a large round communal table under the glass dome, ringed by food counters: Apsys, Giannis Liokas's take on souvlaki, seafood, fresh pasta, loukoumades, and Boarding Pass, a cocktail bar dressed as an airport lounge. STOA Agora stocks more than 4,000 products from over 300 small and medium Greek producers.
Culture stays in the building too: the Karolos Koun Art Theatre and the European Parliament's free Europa Experience are both here.
Why we picked it
A landmark arcade brought back to life as a place to eat and shop Greek. It is the most ambitious new food address in the centre.
