Alsace Only
Since 2026
Minimal
~5 min walk to Panathenaic Stadium
~23 min to the Acropolis
Kostis Karatzias pours only Alsace here — Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and more from small producers, by the glass or the bottle. A handful of seats inside, a few tables on the square, and plates built to go with the wine.
Vin d'Alsace opened in September 2026 in a long, narrow room of 13 square metres on Varnava Square. Kostis Karatzias saw the closed shop and pictured a wine bar in it — the shape, he says, reminded him of the tall, slender bottles of Alsace.
The list is Alsace and nothing else: Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Sylvaner, imported from small producers and changed often. Everything comes by the glass or by the bottle.
I sat down to look into it, but there's nothing smaller on record. — Kostis Karatzias
The food is there for the wine: bread with salted butter, pickles, tinned sardines. Inside fits a few people at a time; most of the evening happens at the tables outside.
Why we picked it
A wine bar devoted to a single region, which is exactly why it works. Tiny, focused and run by someone who knows every bottle.
Best forRiesling lovers and the wine-curious
