Pangrati
Akra.
Michelin Bib Gourmand, wood-fired daily menus, and a counter seat in Pangrati.
All-day dining spot in Pangrati run by chefs Giannis Loukakis and Spiros Pediaditakis, where the menu changes daily and almost everything passes through a wood-fired oven. A small room with a counter facing the open kitchen, a bakery section at the front, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand to back it up.
Akra sits on Aminta Street in Pangrati, one of the city’s quieter residential neighbourhoods, and has been earning a devoted following since chefs Giannis Loukakis and Spiros Pediaditakis opened it in 2023. The space is deliberately small — a counter that wraps around an open kitchen where the cooking happens in plain view, with a bakery section at the entrance turning out oven-fresh pastries and breads throughout the day. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand in 2024, recognising good cooking at honest prices.
The menu changes daily, driven by what the chefs find at the market and what the season allows. The wood-fired oven sits at the centre of the kitchen and finds its way into most dishes — fish, vegetables, and meat all get the oven treatment. Dishes tend to be compact and direct: fresh bread with sour cheese from Syros, lamb roasted over embers, zucchini and radishes with a clean dressing.
Counter seat only. You'll watch the oven, the chef will ignore you politely, and the bread will arrive before you've settled in.
Akra runs as an all-day address, meaning the kitchen is open from mid-morning through late evening on most days, with Sunday service wrapping up in the afternoon. The room fills quickly in the evenings, and the counter seats offer the best vantage point — close enough to watch everything, with the chefs cooking alongside you without ceremony.
