Exarchia

Kaldi Kafekopteio.

Coffee since 2016. One thing.

Specialty coffee roaster and shop on Ippokratous 164 on the Exarchia-Neapoli edge, since 2016. Founded by Konstantinos Anastasopoulos and Grigoris Tsekouras around one idea: coffee ground to order, sourced with specificity. Herbs, teas, and cereals alongside the beans. Tiny space, consistent crowd. Closed Sundays.

Kaldi opened in the early spring of 2016 on Ippokratous, on the busy edge where Neapoli meets Exarchia. The name comes from the Ethiopian goatherd who, according to legend, first observed the stimulating effects of coffee berries a thousand years ago. The founders, Konstantinos Anastasopoulos and Grigoris Tsekouras, are coffee obsessives who wanted a space in the city centre where they could share that obsession directly: freshly ground Greek coffee, espresso, filter, single origin, alongside fine herbs, teas, and cereals.

The space is tiny and deliberately so. Minimal design: wooden shelves, a small bench outside for the warmer months, good light. Most people take their coffee to go, but the ones who stay tend to settle in — the atmosphere is the kind that makes fifteen minutes stretch into an hour without anyone noticing. The staff are a consistent subject in every review, which in a small space is a reliable indicator of how the place is run.

One idea. Executed well.

The coffee is the point. Ground to order, sourced with specificity, treated with the seriousness the product deserves. This is not a cafe that expanded sideways into brunch or cocktails or a DJ night — it is a coffee shop with one idea executed well. Open weekdays from 07:00, Saturday from 08:00, closed Sundays.
