The Margi is a family-run boutique hotel on the Athenian Riviera at Vouliagmeni, 23 kilometres from central Athens. Founded in 1960 by Dr. Yiangos Stavridis, who named it after his daughters Maria and Gina, it is now in its third generation under Theo and Yiangos Agiostratitis. 89 rooms across five floors. In 1960, Dr. Yiangos Stavridis and his wife Katy began construction of “Margi House” on the Vouliagmeni peninsula — 18 apartments in the pinewood forest of the Athenian Riviera, named after their daughters Maria and Gina. The press recognised it at the time as a private initiative that honoured Greek tourism. The property has since expanded to 89 rooms across five floors, remaining family-run across three generations. Theo Agiostratitis now heads operations; his brother Yiangos Agiostratitis, architect, oversaw the renovation and current form of the hotel.
The kitchen is led by Michelin-starred chef Panagiotis Giakalis. The Patio Restaurant operates through summer — nine tables, advance reservation required — serving degustation menus built around organic produce from The Margi Farm, the hotel’s own working farm 20 minutes away. Malabar runs poolside from morning and transitions to candlelit dining through summer evenings. A third restaurant, Malabar In-House, operates through winter. The spa runs three treatment rooms, a couple’s suite, an indoor pool, steam room and sauna.
The hotel sits between the pinewood forest and a bay with a yacht marina. The nearest beaches are a few minutes’ walk. Central Athens is 23 kilometres north. The Margi is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
