Psyrri

Baba Au Rum

Thanos Prunarus built his bar around rum when most of Europe was ignoring it; the back bar now runs past 400 bottles. Rum-forward classics, tiki, and house drinks made with Greek produce. No reservations: the room runs first come, first served.

Old School

Au Revoir Bar

Brothers Theodoros and Lysandros Papatheodorou opened it on Patission; Aristomenis Provelegios designed the interior, and little has changed since. Classic drinks without flourish, served by bartenders who remember your last order. Lysandros's son Sotiris runs it now.

Monastiraki

The Clumsies

Vasilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoulis turned a run-down neoclassical townhouse on Praxitelous into an all-day bar that changes character with the hours. Menus readable only under UV light, Greek ingredients used with intent, and both founders still behind the bar most nights.

Syntagma

Barro Negro

George Kavaklis and Stelios Papadopoulos opened Athens' first bar dedicated to agave: tequila, mezcal, and rarer bottles like bacanora and raicilla. A long, dark bar, a back wall of bottles, and cocktails that make the case through technique rather than shots.

Klakaz

Klakaz has taken over the space that was Six d.o.g.s, with interventions by Point Supreme Architects. A café, kitchen, bar and stage around a tree-shaded garden: Area51 coffee and Canadian-style pizza by day, cocktails, gigs and parties at night.

The Bar in front of the Bar

Alexandros Tselepis, Konstantinos Theodorakopoulos and Symeon Papanikolaou started pouring on the pavement of Petraki while permits cleared for Rumble in the Jungle, the bar behind the unmarked door. Eight zero-waste cocktails a day, no indoor seating, No. 47 on the World's 50 Best Bars 2025.
